Working from home sounds ideal. No commute, flexible hours, and the comfort of your own space. But when you’re running a business from home—especially with kids underfoot—the reality can be far more chaotic than calm.
Below are two common struggles I’ve faced as a work-from-home business owner, along with a couple of simple tools that have helped me stay focused and productive.
Struggle #1: Constant Noise and Distractions
Whether it’s kids playing in the background, neighbors mowing the lawn, or everyday household sounds, maintaining focus during work hours can feel nearly impossible. Client calls and deep work both suffer when the noise never stops.
What helped: Investing in a pair of reliable noise-canceling headphones. These help create a bubble of quiet, allowing me to concentrate during work sessions and sound professional on client calls. I keep them within reach at all times, and they’ve become a non-negotiable part of my daily workflow.
Struggle #2: Scattered Thoughts and Missed Details
When your home is your office, it’s easy to misplace things—ideas, to-dos, and even time itself. Digital apps are great, but I’ve found that physically writing things down helps me stay grounded and intentional.
What helped: Keeping a set of high-quality black gel ink pens and a designated notebook at my desk. There’s something satisfying about writing in smooth ink and crossing items off a list. It helps me clear my mind and organize priorities when everything feels overwhelming.
Final Thoughts
Running a business from home requires discipline, structure, and flexibility. But it also helps to have a few go-to tools that make your space more focused and functional. Sometimes the smallest changes—like a solid headset or a favorite pen—can bring the greatest clarity to your day.
If you’re navigating the work-from-home life too, don’t underestimate the value of products that actually support how you work.
My go-to tools:
Noise-Canceling Headphones – block distractions and stay in your zone
Black Gel Ink Pens – for clarity, planning, and progress on paper
